Well it has been a fast few weeks! I have thoroughly enjoyed having all of you in class this session. I hope that you found the class interesting and insightful. This last post is to get your opinion on the class and the assignments. What did you like about the class? Anything that needs to be improved on? Did I do a fair job of teaching each of you?
I appreciate all feedback! :) Please feel free to keep in touch and keep blogging! Get your thoughts out there.... Write it Down & Let it Go.
Have a wonderful summer!

Journal #5
Journal Entry 5:
This is the final required journal post! This week we talked about work, home and computer based interpersonal interactions. We also did a resume' workshop on Thursday to hone in on self-promotion in a professional sense and what employers look for. I asked you on Tuesday to do two exercises in the book: One for Home relationships and one for CMC interactions. Post your findings from each exercise (both from Ch12).
Then, for the rest of your post choose one of those types of interactions: Home, Family or Computer Mediated Communication; and discuss an experience you had that was a positive/beneficial interaction with one of these groups. For example, the story I told in class about the old coin necklace that my Dad got me really was a wonderful experience because he took the time to find something that was valuable and sentimental for me. I remember that birthday like it was yesterday because of this symbolic reminder that I keep around my neck. I also remember that he cooked me scallops, crab cakes and mashed potatoes as well as homemade bread. And then we sipped wine on the back porch facing the creek and enjoyed a fine Dominican cigar until it got dark outside. It was a simple day, but a wonderful one. It helped to reinforce my relationship with my Dad; who I don't see very often.
You may discuss a similar family relationship, a workplace relationship/friendship or even a computer mediated relationship... meaning you met and became romantically involved with someone online, or just keeping up with a friend, family member or lover via the Internet because you are separated by space.
I'll be posting one more journal exercise but this is just a class review. You are not required to do this for points, but it would mean a lot to me to get some feedback on the course! I'll post that this weekend. Best! See you Tuesday for the Team Speeches!

Extra Credit Entry
Extra Credit: Relationship Chapters
If you would like a few points extra credit, then feel free to post a blog on this topic. Think within the realm of your own relationships (past and present). How did a particular relationship form? How was trust gained/lost (if at all)? Did it end? How or why? Be as specific or vague as you feel comfortable with. Just try to relate this example back to the book.
If the relationship is over: would you have done anything differently?
If you are still in this relationship: how could you make it stronger?
Best,
Prof Tucker

Journal Entry #4

Journal #4: He's Just Not That Into You
This week was all about relationships and the challenges we face within them. Each of you were to watch the movie "He's Just Not That Into You" and analyze a couple from that film. Pick one couple and address the conflicts and challenges they are facing. How did they resolve their conflicts? Did they stay together or separate? Do you see some aspects of your own life in this couple? If they did not settle their conflicts by the end of the film then what suggestions do you have for the couple to resolve their challenges? Use examples and terms from the text to elaborate.
Character Names:
Gigi - Phone obsessed brunette; bubbly attitude
Alex - Restaurant Manager; The "Mac" guy
Beth - Jennifer Aniston
Neil - Ben Affleck
Mary - Drew Barrymore
Conor - Real Estate Agent
Ben - Cheating Husband; Bradley Cooper
Anna - Scarlett Johannson; Flirty blonde singer
Janine - Unsuspecting wife of Ben; Jennifer Connelly

Journal Entry #3
Journal #3
A big part of this week's discussion was centered on relationships and conflict. As each of us have been exposed to conflict in our lives (directly or indirectly) we can see how important it is to be an effective communicator whilst in a conflict.
Think back to a time when you were directly involved in a conflict. This could be with parents, co-workers, romantic partners or friends. What was the conflict about? How was it resolved? If it was NOT resolved, how could it be? Think back to the tactics you used during the conflict... what would you change now based on the chapter info and lectures?
If this is a current conflict, do you believe it can still be resolved?
Best,
Prof Tucker

Journal Entry #2
Journal #2
Culture was at the forefront of the lectures and discussion this week. It influences every decision you make and person that you talk to. Who you are is shaped by your culture.
Take some time to really brainstorm what your culture is! Remember that the text discusses different aspects of culture and that it's not just race or religion.
Describe your culture here. Go into as much detail as you feel comfortable with sharing with me. Then take some time to discuss what the most important part of your culture is.
For example, for me personally my very Irish and Lithuanian heritage is at the core of my being. I am very interested in my ancestry because I am almost completely 50% Irish and 50% Lithuanian (which is rare). My family history of coming to America and building a life here is very intriguing to me, as well as where my roots are across the Atlantic. However, this is only a chunk of my culture. I will post a full response to my own Journal question this week. <3
